Counselling is beneficial for individuals from all walks of life. It helps them explore options, find solutions, develop coping strategies, identify strengths, locate information, provide resources, and promote healing, resiliency, and self-empowerment.
The length of service and frequency of sessions may vary. You will work with your counsellor to develop goals and a timeline for accomplishing those goals.
Counselling offers a variety of benefits for individuals seeking support. By working with a trained professional, you have the opportunity to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a safe and non-judgmental space. This can lead to increased self-awareness, improved communication skills, and the ability to develop healthy coping strategies for managing stress and difficult emotions. Counselling can also provide you with a greater sense of empowerment and confidence in your ability to make positive changes in your life. Ultimately, the goal of counselling is to help you achieve greater overall well-being and live a more fulfilling life.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a psychotherapeutic approach that recognizes and addresses the presence of multiple sub-personalities or families within an individual's mental system. Each of these sub-personalities consists of wounded parts and painful emotions like anger and shame, as well as parts that attempt to manage and protect the individual from the pain of the wounded parts. These sub-personalities often clash with one another and with an individual's core Self - a concept that describes the complete, compassionate, and confident person that lies at the heart of every individual.
IFS aims to heal the wounded parts and restore mental balance and harmony by altering the dynamics that create discord among the sub-personalities and the Self.
Maintaining healthy relationships can be challenging and we understand that. Our experienced counsellors are specifically trained in The Gottman Method, which is a proven theory for making relationships work. According to this theory, couples can make their relationship last by becoming better friends, managing conflicts effectively, and creating ways to support each other's aspirations for the future. Drs. John and Julie Gottman have identified the seven components of a sound relationship house, which are essential for a healthy relationship. Our counsellors can help you understand and implement these components to create a strong foundation for your relationship.
We see children and youth of all ages. For our younger clients, we generally use techniques such as Play Therapy. Play Therapy is generally for children ages 3 to 11. Play therapy is a form of Counselling that relies on play to help therapists communicate with children and understand their mental health. Because children develop cognitive skills before language skills, play is an effective way to understand a child. The therapist may observe a child playing with toys–such as playhouses and dolls–to understand the child’s behavior and identify issues.
Child play therapy is a form of therapy that uses play as a medium for children to communicate their thoughts and feelings. Through play, children can express themselves freely without the pressure of using words, which can be especially helpful for children who have difficulty verbalizing their emotions. Trained therapists use various play techniques and toys to help children work through their emotional, behavioural, or developmental issues. Play therapy is often used to help children who have experienced trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns.

Exposure therapy is a behavioural therapy commonly used to treat various phobias and anxiety disorders. The goal of therapy is to work with a Social Worker or Psychotherapist to confront fears and anxiety in a safe setting, either in a real-life situation or in vivo.
How does Exposure therapy work?
Exposure therapy can help clients reduce feelings of anxiety, distress, or fear that they may experience due to trauma or diagnosis. In a safe space, the client will be exposed to these fears, hoping to reduce their anxiety and distress.
Our Counsellors - Social Workers or Psychotherapist will use various types of exposure, depending on the fear or disorder, including but not limited to:
- Creating a real-life situation for the person to go through
- Using talking therapy to encourage the person to imagine situations or recall traumatic events
- Avoidance hierarchy
- Behavioral experiment
- Learning to cope with physical body sensations
- Testing predictions and looking at the intolerance of uncertainty.
Hypnotherapy is a technique that uses hypnosis to treat specific symptoms or health conditions. It involves inducing a hypnotic state, which is marked by waking awareness and allows you to focus on your inner experiences while being detached and externally aware. This therapy can be a part of your treatment plan for phobias and anxiety-related disorders. It is also considered for pain management, weight loss, smoking cessation, and other applications.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an information processing therapy that helps clients cope with trauma, addictions, and phobias. During this treatment, the patient focuses on a specific thought, image, emotion, or sensation while simultaneously watching the therapist’s finger or baton move in front of his or her eyes. The client is told to recognize what comes up for him/her when thinking of an image; then the client is told to let it go while doing bilateral stimulation.

Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in ancient India. First codified by the sage Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras around 400 C.E, the practice was in fact handed down from teacher to student long before this text arose. Traditionally, this was a one-to-one transmission, but since yoga became popular in the West in the 20th century, group classes have become the norm.
The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj, meaning “to yoke,” or “to unite”. The practice aims to create union between body, mind and spirit, as well as between the individual self and universal consciousness. Such a union tends to neutralize ego-driven thoughts and behaviours, creating a sense of spiritual awakening.
Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years, and whilst many different interpretations and styles have been developed, most tend to agree that the ultimate goal of yoga is to achieve liberation from suffering. Although each school or tradition of yoga has its own emphasis and practices, most focus on bringing together body, mind and breath as a means of altering energy or shifting consciousness.
She says Yoga and meditation have been her saving grace. “ Yoga has changed my life in such a positive way, it helps me to continually grow and become the best version of myself- it teaches me to be grounded and present in the moment and welcome love and happiness into my life on and off my mat. Yoga truly is a lifestyle and I am grateful everyday I found this practice and pathway to exploring my true authentic self “
